The Heartbeat of Kothamangalam
A Living Tradition of Faith
Mar Thoma Cheriapally stands at the eastern gateway of Ernakulam district — a church where St. Thomas tradition, Syrian Christian heritage, and the legacy of St. Yeldo Mar Baselios meet in daily worship and pilgrimage.
From the stone cross of 1455 to the tomb that draws faithful of every background, Cheriapally remains a place of prayer, healing, and holy celebration.

St. Yeldo Mar Baselios
Kothamangalam Muthappan
In 1685, the saint arrived at Cheriapally after a long journey to Malankara. His tomb in the madbaha has drawn pilgrims beyond caste and religion for over three centuries.
When he passed away on Kanni 19, the stone cross shone with light and the church bells rang on their own.
